• 1: Start with a lavender male and a female of the breed you want to end up with. All animals will be non-lavender (split lavender).
  • 2: Mate F1 to F1. Else you will lose track of your lavender gene !
  • The offspring will be 25% lavenders. Of those only a small percentage will have (part of) the desired pattern (else then unicolor/self).
  • 3: Take well marked parents from the F2 to improve type and pattern.
  • 3b: Alternatively you can backcross an F2 animal to a parent of the desired breed and pattern. The offspring will all be split for lavender.
  • 4: Take a well marked animal from 3b to backcross to a well marked F2 parent. Half of the offspring will be lavenders. Select for markings and/or type.
  • You can also inbreed the offspring of 3b. 25% of their offspring will be lavenders. Select for markings and/or type.
  • Repeat steps 3b and 4 if necessary (with well marked lavender animals of the new generations instead of the F2).
  • 5: Not shown. Lavenders breed true.
